I was serving with 2-37 AR at the time of Zimmer's death. I remember sitting with him in a bunker during a mortar attack on our chow hall tent in Najaf, FOB Baker. We were all laughing and trading stories while waiting for more mortars rounds to fall. We abandonned our food in the chow tent after the first mortar impact sounded, and opted not to eat for that evening. Zimmer was also in my American Government class before we deployed. He is missed by SPC Goldberg of 2-37 AR, my best friend in Iraq. I can't tell you how Zimmer's death crushed him for months. The American people will never understand the intensity and seriousness of the fighting in Najaf at that time, with much of the attention focused on Fallujah at the time. I have written a book, over 1500 pages of intimate conversations and experiences that we all shared, including moments like being stuck in a bunker during a mortar attack. If you want to understand what happened in Najaf,Baghdad, and Al-Kut, please contact me @ eurotrotter@web.de I took Zimmer's death hard, it was surreal, but I couldn't cry anymore. We'd been to so many memorials, it began to numb you. When I saw this website, and Zimmer's face again for the first time since I saw him in Najaf, I cried. Blessings to you all, and pray for peace in Iraq. Sincerely, Dan Thompson former 2-37 Armor soldier.

To Gino and Lisa, I am very sorry to hear of your loss of Nick. If you remember me Gino, I worked with you about six years ago with the helicopter spraying. I remember you talking alot about your wife and son. So I was shocked to hear the news. I am sure this past year has been hard on you both. I just caught the segment on the chopper idea.I would like to find out more about it.If you remember ,I am a helicopter mechanic, and also have a love for motorcycles, riding them and working on them.If this would help ,I would like to put in some work for your project. Please let me know. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Dale Penn
